Schokland is a former Dutch island surrounded by polder since 1942. In this design lab we had to come up with a Hotel design for it’s visitors. Old maps of this island show many historic layers, but during the site visit it became clear that this small island is blended in the green landscape and hard to experience as one entity.
In my proposal I split the program of the hotel in several small hotelrooms that show visitors the different historic values of many sites while forming recognition points for the former island surface of Schokland. The houses are a modern interpretation of the traditional wooden houses on the island and have deformations that emphasize the cultural value and architecture on that spot.
