This cultural complex in the Longang district of Shenzhen consists of 4 buildings connected underground: a public art museum, youth center, science museum and book shopping-mall. The buildings are accessible from the surrounding park and together provide sheltered public squares between the centers.
BIM
The complexity of this building made us design and document this building in three dimensions. The team started the initial design using Rhino and Grasshopper, and later this was translated to Revit using computational optimization and parameterization methods. I trained the team to work with Revit so we where all able to work with the same model and deliverables. And took care of the BIM collaboration meetings with our local design partners for architecture, construction and MEP, aiding them by modeling complex structural and architectural building elements.
Facade
My main design responsibility has been the facade and structure of this building which was challenging to built in Revit. The complexity of the detailing and connections increased during the design development but by developing a more parametric workflow it became faster and more rewarding to design, develop and coordinate these elements with all parties.
Documentation
My BIM coordination role made me also responsible for the quality of documentation and deliverables for this project. Since the Information Model was detailed it provided us with allot of flexibility to document complex objects and connection in the model. Using Revit’s parameters and filters we could generate documentation and data that has been very helpful for explanation our design intent and desired fabrication methods.
